This week myself and Jodie discovered a brand new space within Selfridges London: The Body Studio. This area, dedicated to all things body, allows customers to celebrate the latest in fashion, fitness and health. As part of our Selfridges adventure we enjoyed a treatment with the FaceGym, a blow-dry from Daniel Galvin and a delicious lunch from Hemsley + Hemsley.
We were invited to the FaceGym studio, a revolutionary way to exercise your face. Their philosophy lies in the fact that there are over 650 muscles in our bodies which we exercise regularly, and over 40 muscles in our faces. The FaceGym believes that our faces should get the same exercise treatment we give to our bodies. Their non-invasive facial workout relies on lifting and sculpting the facial muscles, revealing a more toned and tightened face. Their treatments use “vigorous knuckling movements and high energy whipping strokes to stimulate blood circulations, collagen production and cell renewal”. We really were having our muscles contracted through electrical currents in the middle of Selfridges..!
I was slightly sceptical at first, but the end results were astonishing.
The regime follows a routine we are familiar with for our bodies, starting with a warm-up before moving into cardio, strengthening, sculpting and finishing with a cool-down. The highly skilled face-trainers in the FaceGym’s face studio demonstrated this workout to us, with astonishing results.
Through a skin evaluation, and the stages of the workout, skin quickly began tingling and stretching, indicating that it really wasn’t a facial but a true workout for the facial muscles. The face trainer used a variety of creams, gels and sprays along the way to accompany the workout, which tightened, cooled and tingled the skin. One of the FaceGym’s revolutionary techniques comes down to their FaceGym Pro, which gives the skin electrical muscle stimulation, adapting to your skin type to get into the muscles and tighten them up!
The results were astonishing, as you can see from the photos. The skin felt smooth and tight as soon as the treatment was over.
The FaceGym really is a workout, and will revolutionise the way you think about your face!
Once we were finished at the Gym it was time for that post-workout fix.. Food! Luckily Hemsley + Hemsley’s café is also located in the Body Studio, offering deliciously health foods to fill you up for the day. I had visited the café previously at their launch, but it was wonderful to be able to enjoy a sit-down meal inside the beautiful space.
Sisters Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley have taken the nutrition world by a storm! They have built up their business – which now includes a café, cookbooks, TV appearances and more – based on their philosophy that real food should be nourishing, affordable and enjoyable. Or “Good + Simple”.
The Hemsley + Hemsley area perfectly reflects their hard-working healthy philosophy, with all the foods free from gluten, grains, refined sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils. The space makes you want to relax and enjoy your favourite dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
We tucked into the Salmon Burger with Lime Slaw, which was just as delicious as it looks.
The sisters have two cook books; Good + Simple and The Art of Eating Well which explain their simple-to-follow recipes while teaching you along the way to enjoy the food you make. Their principles are simple: they are built around gut health, whole foods and affordable ingredients.
The café is open on Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 9pm, and Sunday from 12.00pm to 6pm.
Before leaving the beautiful Body Studio I was in for one last treat: a wash and blow-dry from Daniel Galvin’s principal stylist Rikki. After carefully washing and conditioning my hair he took his time blow-drying it, taking care of each section in it’s own right.
The Selfridges Body Studio really has everything you need for a fitness packed afternoon, aside from stocking up on active-wear, swim-wear and under-wear, going to the FaceGym and filling yourself up with Hemsley + Hemsley, you can also participate in exercise classes. One of the exciting studios offering classes within Selfridges is Psycle London, a high intensity, low impact workout on a bike. The classes run everyday and are easily booked through their website. If you are ever up for a challenge make sure you wander into Selfridges’s Body Studio where you will happily discover all things body, ranging from lingerie to to work-out clothes, with a focus on making you feel good.
All in all I think it’s safe to say I could get very used to travelling to Selfridges every Friday for a full pamper session, only having to go from the FaceGym to Psycle, Hemsley + Hemsley and Daniel Galvin before finishing off with a spot of shopping in the Body Studio!
