Turmeric Tea

It’s getting colder outside and we’re at risk of developing a few sniffles, so we thought we’d help you out with our wonder tea!  Turmeric is really having its moment, claiming health benefits that are giving Cacao and Kale a run for their money. This wonder root has been a staple in Chinese medicine for years, with its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Turmeric also claims to be a natural pain killer, mood lifter and liver detoxifier…so great if you’ve had a few too many the night before! Combined with ginger to soothe digestion, spices with extra anti-inflammatory benefits and lemon for added vitamin C we can only try and get through this season cold free!

Serves 1-2

Ingredients:

2 cups water
1 inch fresh ginger root, minced
2 teaspoon ground turmeric (or 1 inch turmeric root)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (or 2-3 cinnamon sticks)
Pinch of clove
Pinch of nutmeg
Raw honey to sweeten
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp coconut oil (optional)
Sliced oranges (optional)
Milk of choice (optional)

Instructions:

In a small saucepan, bring water to boil, add peeled and minced ginger root, turmeric, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg (you may also add cinnamon sticks and slice oranges if desired)
Simmer for 10-15 minutes on medium-low heat.
Pour through a strainer into a mug and add fresh lemon juice.
Optional: Add coconut oil, milk of choice (would recommend coconut, almond or hemp), honey to taste.
Sit down, relax and enjoy.
