5 Ways to Boost Your Energy

If you’re one of those people who has to have a giant cup of coffee to get through the day, then at some point I’m betting you’ve wondered, “is there a better way”?

Fortunately for you, yes, there absolutely is!  Recharging your body the natural way is a far better way to increase your energy and sustain the change instead of hitting a slump after your caffeine high wears off. Follow these five steps and you’ll soon be walking straight past the coffee machine in the morning as you head out the door full of energy!

1) Get rid of ALL of the junk food.

I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. Junk food is amazingly bad for you, regardless of how delicious you may think it is. It may seem like a great option if you have little time to cook but inevitably you are depleting your energy levels and denying your body the nutrients it craves. When talking about junk food you may immediately think of sweet treats, fried fatty foods and energy drinks, but this definition also stretches to other processed and refined products. This means things like protein bars masquerading as health foods, which can be hard to digest properly, are also not really doing your energy levels any favours.

Coffee, although not a junk food in itself, can be a catalyst for your body craving sweet things. Your first cup of the morning will soon leave you feeling sluggish which will more than likely lead to the urge to pour yourself another cup or fill the void with some form of junk food. However, by just avoiding the coffee in the first place, you’ll eventually find that you’re much less pre-disposed to wanting these things! You’ll also find with stimulants, such as sugar and caffeine, your face will begin to look as tired as you are feeling. By removing this product from your diet you will soon get that natural glow back in your cheeks.  Remember, one day without coffee is not enough to instantly feel better. It is a gradual process as your body experiences withdrawal from the caffeine. Eventually you will be on track to a more energised lifestyle!

2) Flush out the toxins.

As you stop filling your body with things it doesn’t really want, the next step is to eradicate the toxins that have been slowly building up. There are a few ways to do this. Firstly, water has to become your new best friend. Drink the filtered kind in abundance and also, water with lemon first thing in the morning will do a great deal to help with this process. The next thing to turn to is fruit and vegetables. Upping your fruit and veg intake will be great for your energy and nutrition levels and in addition they also help to draw toxins out of your cells. Within a few weeks your body will contain less waste and much fewer toxins which will leaving you feeling much more energised than before!

3) Opt for a natural boost.

There is no greater way to get a natural burst of energy then with a Green Smoothie first thing in the morning. Green Smoothies are easily packed with nutrients due to the fact you can blend so much goodness into just one glass. Replace your morning coffee with one of these and you’ll be good to go! Another way to get a natural boost is to increase the amount of B vitamins you are consuming. You can either do this with supplements or purposefully choosing foods that are full of this particular vitamin.

4) Stay still but move!

After a hectic day sometimes the best thing to do to recharge is to just be still. It sounds so simple but it can really do wonders for your stress and energy levels. You can even try doing this first thing in the morning before your day begins but you may find it most helpful in the evenings. During the work day, if you are feeling over-worked or under-energised, then taking a few moments alone to be completely still and clear your mind can help to get you back on track. Conjuring up some positive images during this process can also be a great way to motivate yourself during work hours. Think of things that you are grateful for and parts of your life that you are happy with. This technique will also help you to see more beauty in your day!

In contrast to staying still, getting some stretches going is also a fantastic way from pulling yourself out of a slump. Yoga is of course a perfect way to do this, but not wholly appropriate at the office. However, you can easily do some arm and leg stretches at your desk as well getting up to move frequently and enthusiastically! Research has proven that doing exercise at work increases productivity. Many places of employment are starting to implement this idea but if yours don’t then you can easily conduct a very basic workout on your own!

5) Care for your skin.

Believe it or not, looking after your skin can really make a difference to how energetic you feel throughout the day. More often than not, when you look good, you feel good too. By using techniques such as dry brushing (which will also help to remove toxins) you can get your skin looking much younger. By improving your circulation in certain areas with dry brushing you can help the flow of blood and oxygen in the affected area. This will not only help with boosting your energy but will also give your skin a fresher appearance.

Aromatherapy is another thing you can consider to get those batteries back to full life again. This is easily done in the evenings by adding a few drops of various essential oils to your bathwater – I strongly recommend ginger or peppermint. You can also use moisturizers that are made with essential oils and for this I would suggest using a citrus based product. Lemon oil in particular is great for reducing stress levels and you could even keep a small bottle with you at all times.

Now you know five simple ways to feel more energetic whilst also lowering stress levels and increasing your nutritional intake. Incorporating them into your general day to day is by no means a difficult task! Start today and in a few short weeks you will easily see the difference in your mood, your productivity and perhaps even your lifestyle!
